Little Haiti is revitalizing nearly 18 acres of unexplored industrial and vacant property located in Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood to create an urban walkable campus that will become a premier location for technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, art, and culture, all while protecting the community's authentic cultural identity. Little Haiti (MCID) is a master planned urban community committed to sustainability, technology, health and wellness, as well as art and culture. It is spread over 18 acres in Little Haiti. It is located to the north of Wynwood and the Design District, and adjacent to the MiMo district, Miami, Florida. The Little Haiti Community is a walking community that is a campus-like area where people from different backgrounds can have living a life of quality and write the next chapter of the history of how we are living, working, playing and grow together. MCID is committed to bringing to life a unique project that will become an economic engine that is self-sustaining within one of the most dynamic zones of Miami. The development will consist of responsible companies, entrepreneurs and innovators. The development of MCID is in three phases. The first phase is assembly, entitlement, along with the renovation of existing buildings. The second phase is the activation of the neighborhood by leasing the newly renovated structures and the activation of the MCID Park (current phase). Third, the development of new structures in accordance with the master plan approved by the city. MCID has been renovating warehouses, factories, buildings to create unique areas for galleries, offices and cafes. In addition, the group behind the project established the magic city, a charitable fund at the Miami Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit company, which aims to aid in the economic, social, and cultural well-being of Little Haiti and the diverse residents and workers there.
In partnership with the community for many years and years, has enabled the MCID team to better understand the preferences and requirements of the people who will take part in and take advantage of this project. MCID will bring significant community benefits. It includes a landmark contribution package of up $31 million of payments to the Little Haiti Revitalization Trust, an trust to be created by the City of Miami in order to aid and coordinate efforts to revitalize communities. The trust's main goals are affordable homeownership and housing, as well as education programs for the community as well as local small business development as well as local workforce participation and recruitment programs, community beautification projects, and the creation and improvement of public parks. Additionally the Little Haiti Revitalization Trust Fund is managed and overseen exclusively by and for the community. In light of the importance of mobility in a rapidly growing city like Miami, MCID is focused on improving neighborhood connectivity through improving local roads , and investing in pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure as well as open public and civic spaces. The creation of the 2.18-acre pedestrian promenade, known as the Promenade du Grand Bois, and 3.8 acres of civic space are part of this plan.
